After reading the Procrastination
Definition you already know that there are 3 main reasons
for procrastination. We will walk you through overcoming
procrastination for either of them.
The tips mentioned here are SIMPLE but EXTREMELY POWERFULL,
read carefully and try to fully understand the meaning of each
point.
This is how procrastination works:
ABC = Activating Event + Belief System +
Consequence
- "Activating Event” - is the task you are putting
off (like sending an email, calling someone, talking to
your boss, etc…)
- "Belief System” – your hidden feelings about the
task, if you have negative feelings for some reason – you
will automatically tend to delay the task.
- "Consequence” – the actual action you take. For
example a non-procrastinators response would be “I don’t
want to write this email, but I better start writing it
now” as appose to a procrastinator who would say “I don’t
want to write this email and even though I have to send it
today, I’ll do it later”.
Here are 4 simple steps to Stop
Procrastination:
1. Realize that you are delaying a task
2. Discover the real reason behind the delay.
3. Attack the reason and see the irrational part of it.
4. Start DOING.
It’s as simple as that and will work after a few
days of practice. Just keep a
notebook with you and every time you feel that you are
delaying a task – WRITE DOWN the reasons why
you are delaying the task and arguments against the
delay. Then clearly REALIZE that it’s irrational to
delay the task any further and start DOING it.
